Combined Defence Services Examination is conducted, twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission, for Recruitment into the Indian Military Academy, Officers’ Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Indian Air Force Academy. CDS Selection Process encompasses two stages i.e. Written test and SSB Interview round. In the first stage (written exam), candidates have to attempt three papers for selection in IMA , INA and AFA whereas OTA candidates have to attempt only 2 papers. In the second stage of selection, they have to appear for an Interview which will test their intelligence, personality and psychological aptitude. In order to be eligible for CDS candidate has to qualify both stage 1 and stage 2.

Academies:
- Indian Military Academy (IMA) and Officers’ Training Academy (OTA)
- Indian Naval Academy (INA)
- Air Force Academy (AFA)
Educational Qualification:
- Graduation from a recognised university
- Engineering degree from a recognised university/institute
- Graduation (with Physics and Mathematics at Class 12) or Bachelor of Engineering
Those who are in their final year of graduation can also apply. Women candidates are only eligible to apply for OTA. Candidates both male and female must meet the physical standard specified by UPSC.
